I haven’t had a lot of time the last few months.
And, that’s been increasingly difficult for me. I’ve gotten new toy cameras, watercolors, pencils… which have been sitting unused. Not for lack of ideas.
Most of my time has been occupied by classes. Either the time for the class itself, or the time needed for the assigned projects (overwhelmingly unrelated to my own work). Not that the time was wasted. I did learn a lot and have gotten a lot better at iterating over work.
... I’m making changes.
Starting with a lot more time being assigned to my own work. For spring, I’ve greatly reduced the number of classes I’ll be taking. Meaning, more time being available for me to work on my things.
Next, I’m going to be more serious about keeping deadlines.
I’ve had a project rolling around in my head for years, which I’ve tried starting a few times, but never gotten particularly far (despite the ever-increasing worldbuilding in my head).. So, instead of waiting for everything to be perfect, I’m just going to start putting it out. Once a month, a new comic issue. It’ll probably change genre and art styles. I’m trying to remind myself that producing something (even if it’s awkward and I’ll want to redo it later) is better than never creating it at all.
I've been bad about bringing a camera with me when I go out the last few months. A mixture of COVID-19 anxiety and mental exhaustion when I’ve been out. So, want to get back in the habit.. And, will start with a semi-trivial goal of taking one photo every day. With easy goals, it takes away the fear of failure. Which means you’re more likely to outperform them.
Here comes 2021.
