This is very much ‘what it says on the tin.’
I wanted to play with dry ice with (artificial) waterlilies in my bathtub. I think the background inspiration for this was the Denver Botanic Gardens and their unusual water gardens, in which the water has been dyed black (with food coloring).
So, I laid some mosquito netting down in the base of the tub, taped black fabric to the walls of the bathtub, and filled it up. I set my little Diana Multi-Pinhole Operator up on a tripod and intended to make more 1-3 pinhole still life triptychs. I used my trusty Diana F+ to take additional shots.
How disappointing when both rolls of film came back completely unexposed. All indications is that both cameras are in working order, and (as I had used two different film stocks) it seems unlikely to have been a bad batch. My best guess is that some combination of the humidity and the colder temperature made the films less responsive.
So, I did it again. But, used my DSLR (a Canon Rebel T6i) instead. The aspect ratio I think is the strangest part for me. I’ve gotten so used to everything being in a 1:1 square ratio, that it still looks strange to see these 3:2 photos. I’m not sure whether I prefer the sharp focus photographs (taken prior to dry ice) or the softness the dry ice fog gives the subjects.
