I want to be held more accountable to creating things.
I am very much someone who procrastinates through [over-]worldbuilding. For example, I made a 13-fixed-month calendar based on the International Fixed and French Republican calendars. There was no practical reason why I needed to do this.
Rather than do an epic, ever-expanding story arch, I want CruelKind to feel more like interconnected (but, independent) stories. Largely, because I want to play with different genres & media (which could be rather jarring or intimidating).
So, the first decision to make is "which story to tell first?"
And there's a lot to think about here:
❥ How accessible is it?
✷ How much foreknowledge does it require?
⊱ Are there a lot of crossover characters/settings/plotlines?
⊱ Does the audience need outside knowledge to follow along?
✷ How complex is the plot structure?
⊱ Is there a bunch of flash[back|forward]s?)
⊱How many narrators/protagonists are there? How reliable are they?
⊱ Does it follow common narrative structures? (Ex. 3-Act or Hero's Journey)
❥ Do I have the technical skills to create the story I'm envisioning?
❥ Is this the story I want to be telling now?
… Yeah, this is the other part of my procrastination: perfectionism. Anxiety paralyzes me, as I internally debate what the 'correct' path would be (Thanks, ADHD! I hate it.)
